The Whirlwinds

Even as we embraced,

The Whirlwinds behind us dissolved our bodies,

And carried our elements into their twin vortexes,

Until only our embrace remained.

This stayed for a while, but this too soon disappeared.

The Whirlwinds continued to swirl for a while. And then

The one that had me deposited my dust on a grassy meadow,

where I found myself

A stallion prancing and jumping happily with other

stallions and horses.

The one that had you descended on the sea, where you became

a dolphin, capering

And chattering joyously with other dolphins in the cool

Seas.

The world we shared was gone.

In my meadow-world, you remain in the seeds of beauty you

planted in my heart.

And in your sea-world, I perhaps am there in your

passing thoughts.

Apart, I know we wish each other love.

I know we'd try to enjoy our separate worlds the best we

could, to brighten each with what we learned

When we were together.
